Initiation rituals have disappeared from our culture, which over millennia has created a culture of separation and the “lone wolf”. Heroes and heroines usually fight evil alone. Our role models – parents, grandparents, fairy tales, stories, Hollywood – have done little to anchor a collective, collaborative understanding in us.
